Asian Poker Tour

The Asian Poker Tour (or APT, for short) is one of the largest live poker tournaments to ever be hosted by the Asian continent. The first ever APT was held back in 2006, making this tournament quite the seasoned one, when you think of the tournament scene in general. Tony G, the famous Australian poker player, took home the first prize at that first edition. Since then, another Australian (David Saab), an Ukranian-American (Yevgeniy Timoshenko), two Philippine players (Neil Arce and Michael Cua) and a Frenchman (Adrien Allain) have secured the first spot of the tournament. The prizes are not to be neglected, ranging from just over $172 thousand dollars to a cool half million dollars, the biggest prize yet, won in 2008.

The tournament currently consists of two distinct stages, one held in the Philippines and one held in Macau. The Macau event spans through eight days of gaming. Apart from the ongoing main event, there are many other smaller events being held, where you can also win some cash and have some fun, if you decide to go to the APT. The Philippines event has already been held this year, being won by local Michael Cua. However, next year the show is expected to return with fresh faces and new prizes.

As with many other large live poker tournaments, there are many ways to get there. First, there is the easier, but more expensive method of directly paying the buy-in when you show up for the event. This is good as long as you can afford it (the buy-in, alongside the accommodation, trip, and some pocket cash for you to go wild with when staying at the event), but most people would like the opportunity to benefit from a cool promotion even before they first sit down at the tournament table. This is where the satellite tournaments come in handy to win a trip to the APT from a satellite tournament. Satellite tournaments are being held at two of the largest online poker rooms open today: PKR (the largest and arguably the best 3D poker website in the world, with one of the most tight-knit communities you will ever see), Party Poker (the former largest online poker room, which still gathers a lot of poker players, or you can get an entry from a poker sponsorship. Satellite tournaments are also being held at one of the largest online poker networks in the world: iPoker (which features rooms such as Titan Poker, William Hill, and other large rooms). These satellites can ensure you save up on a lot of money when playing in such a large live tournament, and you know the old saying – in poker, the most money you will ever win is the money that you did not lose.

And let’s not neglect another very important aspect of the APT: while you are taking part in a large poker tournament, you also have the chance to visit and explore some of the most exotic countries in the world, and turn this experience into a full vacation.
